Respondus is a Windows application that enhances the functionality and usability of the UNI eLearning (Blackboard) Assessment tool. The University of Northern Iowa has obtained a campus-wide license for the Respondus software.
Information about the Respondus software and the Respondus Test Bank Network (a free service that allows instructors to download publisher test banks) is available at www.respondus.com.
Faculty can obtain a copy of the Respondus software by downloading it from: https://www.uni.edu/its/departmental-purchasing#respondus You will need to enter your CatID username and passphrase.
The file you download is named Respondus-4.0.5.09.zip. Once the file has been downloaded to your computer, close all other programs including Microsoft Office programs, web browsers, etc.
Extract the files from the .zip file. Locate the readme.txt file and follow the directions.
You are not able to download the software directly from the Respondus website, nor are you able to use a previous passphrase to activate a copy previously downloaded from their site.
A copy of the Respondus 4.0 User Guide (in Word/WordPad format) is included with the downloaded .zip file or it can be downloaded from http://www.respondus.com/downloads/Respondus40UserGuideBb.doc. Respondus 4.0 Quick Start Guide is located at: http://www.respondus.com/downloads/RespondusQuickStartGuide.pdf.
Our license DOES permit you to install a copy of the Respondus software on a home computer. However, please note that you are not permitted to provide the Respondus software or the password information to anyone who is not affiliated with our institution. Such an action is a violation of our licensing agreement with Respondus and is also illegal.

Our license with Respondus does NOT permit instructors to obtain support directly from Respondus. If our staff is unable to solve a particular question or problem, we will contact Respondus on your behalf.
