The UNI eLearning servers started coming back online at 1:09 p.m. CST and access to users was restored at 1:19 p.m. CST. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences. The "Emergency Network Maintenance" performed at noon broke the connection between the eLearning application servers and the eLearning database. It took about an hour for the network team to troubleshoot and resolve the connection issues.
The "Emergency Network Maintenance" performed at noon has taken the UNI eLearning System OFFLINE. We are working on getting the UNI eLearning System back online. Our apologies for the inconveniences.

On Friday, January 16, 2015 from 5:30-7 a.m. CST, the UNI eLearning System will be UNAVAILABLE so that we can update some configuration files in the eLearning application to improve performance and stability as well as to apply patches to fix problems with users not being able to view Update Details.
The maintenance took longer than expected, the system was available to users at 7:10 a.m. CST. We apologize for any difficulties this may have caused.

Post Resolution information:
When a user logs into eLearning for the fist time after 7 AM Friday, January 16, 2015, they may see a very large number of pending notifications, this is the result of the eLearning system working through the backlog of notifications for display. These notifications will have an "ago" time based on 7 AM Friday, January 16, 2015. We apologize for the inconveniences, confusion, and frustrations this may cause.
About the resolved bug:
There is a verified and known bug with the "Updates" notifications for My Blackboard. Users are seeing a number in the red badge but when they click through to the "Updates" section, few, if any, course updates are being displayed. Users should visit their eLearning course(s) and review the "What's New" and "To Do" module on the Course Dashboard. Notifications sent via the Mobile App and eMail were unaffected. We apologize for the inconveniences, confusion, and frustrations this software bug is causing. Thank you to those users that reported this issue.
We have received a patch from Blackboard Support and will be installing that the morning of Friday, January 16, 2015. After the patch is installed, past and current notifications should display. No data has been lost. The software is simply not displaying most course notifications in the "Updates" section of My Blackboard.

The UNI eLearning System experienced performance issues from approximately 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. CST that were caused by a recently discovered bug in the Blackboard Learn software. This afternoon, the bug caused us to only have one working eLearning server. Unfortunately around 4:40 p.m., the working server also experienced severe performance issues and may have resulted in some users being "kicked off" of eLearning. We apologize for the inconveniences these performance issues have caused. We took advantage of the servers being offline to install a newly released software patch that Blackboard Support believes will resolve this issue. We will continue to closely monitor the system for performance issues.

Instructors: You must make your UNI eLearning course available to students in order for them to have access to it. Information and directions are located at: https://www.uni.edu/elearning/how-do-i-make-my-bb-learn-9-courses-available-students
Students: Use of the UNI eLearning system is based on the instructor's discretion. Although all UNI courses will have an eLearning site, the Instructor must make that course available for students to have access. Students will have access only to the course(s) in which they are officially registered and the Instructor has made the eLearning site available. If you do not see a course listed, please contact the Instructor of the course(s) to see if they are using the UNI eLearning System and if they have made their eLearning course available to students.

An EMERGENCY RESTART of the UNI eLearning System will occur at 10 p.m. CST today, January 9, 2015 to resolve an issue that is occurring with one of the two eLearning servers. The system will be UNAVAILABLE until at least 10:30 p.m. CST. We apologize for the inconveniences this emergency restart will cause.

On Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 5:30-7 a.m. CST, the UNI eLearning System will be UNAVAILABLE so that we can apply OS updates to the eLearning application servers and update some configuration files in the eLearning application itself.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 5:00 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. CST, the UNI eLearning System will be UNAVAILABLE due to the scheduled "Core and Border Network Maintenance" that will affect the connectivity between the end-users and the UNI eLearning System and the UNI eLearning website.

Spring 2015 UNI eLearning academic courses were populated with students at 9:25 AM CST this morning, Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Spring 2015 student enrollment will be imported into the UNI eLearning System daily, so all enrollment changes (adds/drops) will be automatically processed. Any changes entered in the Student Information System (SIS) by 5:00 PM will be processed the following day.
UNI Instructors: UNI eLearning courses are created in an "unavailable" state. This means an Instructor has access to the course, but students do not see the course listed in their My Courses module until the instructor makes the course available. Instructions for making your course "available" to students are published at: http://www.uni.edu/elearning/how-do-i-make-my-bb-learn-9-courses-available-students . No action is required for instructors that choose not to use the UNI eLearning System. Note: Courses contracted through Continuing and Distance Education (CDE) will be made available by CDE staff by 8:00 AM CST the day the class begins.
UNI Students: You will not see a course listed in your My Courses module unless the Instructor has made the eLearning course available.
